A diode laser is a kind of solid state laser that emits lasers of different wavelengths through a semiconductor. Because the energy transition process of the laser is quite direct, it has a low loss rate and therefore a relatively high efficiency.
The treatment principle of the diode laser is selective pyrogenation, which is mainly determined by its wavelength. Therefore, the wavelength of the diode laser determines its treatment target.
For instance, the wavelengths of the most common two types of diode laser are 808nm and 980nm. Diode laser of 808nm can emit near infrared wave, which can reach down deep to the root of hair follicles, heat the pigment granules and then spread it throughout the whole hair follicle. It can damage the target hair follicle precisely without harming nearby tissue, so it can be used safely in permanent hair removal. Diode laser of 980nm wavelength can transmit energy deep to blood vessels and target erythrocyte oxyhemoglobin, which will be decomposed into absorbable micro molecules after assimilating laser energy, so it can be applied in improving reddish skin, in other words, rosacea treatment.
